Coastal Landscapes : The Oregon Coast is an expanse of natural beauty more likely heard about from others than seen with one’s own eyes. While the Oregon Coast has few naturally beautiful rivals, it’s just not your typical destination unless you happen to live in Oregon. Understandably so. The weather is predictably unpredictable and, at the best of times, the thermometer is not known to climb above 68 degrees fahrenheit. For cold blooded individuals that may be fine. For a destination when considered against a Mexican Peninsula or the warm sands of even San Diego, forget about it. The Oregon coast will in all likelihood be seen in a photograph than in person. Lucky for us, we live here and we love the coast. Lucky for you, we provide the images of the Oregon coast so you can vacation in Cabo San Lucas instead. You’re welcome.

Abandoned in Oregon : Beverly and I have taken several trips to the high desert to capture abandoned structures. Most of them are hell and gone from anywhere else. They serve as a reminder of a bright future for someone, plenty of space to work with and the sky’s the limit. It’s interesting to read about many of the ghost towns that were simply passed on by progress. Railroad tracks that turned right instead of left and missed a bustling town that could have sold cattle or grains. Towns that died waiting for the interstate highway to be built to get their grains to market. Other homesteads were likely built by farmers or ranchers who just preferred to be left in peace. Regardless, the high desert atmosphere has wonderfully preserved the structures scattered throughout eastern Oregon and left a few characteristic gems for the adventurous to discover. There’s more trips in our future, the desert has only hinted at the yields it has hidden for us out there in the middle of nowhere.

Industrial Imagery : The decay from the need for industry leaves a peculiar type of debris behind. This is the sort of stuff futuristic zombie movies are shot on to lend a sense of realism, grime, and hopelessness all wrapped into one cool scene. We just find this stuff beautiful in its own degrading way. I can’t think of another subject that lends itself better to the HDR technique as well as printing on metal than industrial images. What's a metal print? Aluminum metal prints are an exciting new medium that we are just crazy about in the Downen household. The ink is infused into a special coating applied directly to the surface of the metal. The end result is superior contrast, detail and luminosity when compared to a traditional print. These prints are float-mounted, meaning they come shipped ready-to-hang. The aluminum sheet is very light and incredibly easy to hang. Your brand-new wall art will "float" on the wall, lending even more depth to the piece. No framing needed! Aluminum prints are the perfect compliment to our HDR processing techniques. Because of this, we've decided to offer them exclusively in this new print medium in lieu of printing on traditional archival-quality paper for select sizes.

Your Bio

Brett and Beverly are photographers in the Portland, Oregon area specializing in High Dynamic Range (HDR) landscape, industrial, and nature photography. This relatively new photographic treatment has skyrocketed serious fine art photography into a new realm. We're proud to have begun our integration of HDR from the very beginning of this new, modern technique and now happily wield our advanced imaging skills with incredible results.

We now also combine the rich tonalities of HDR with an exciting new print media, metal. This new print media, printing directly onto aluminum sheets, lends more luminosity and saturation to our printed work than traditional paper medias were ever capable of producing.
